Healthy Spaghetti With A Twist!
Spaghetti is a favorite dish in most households because it’s easy to make, quick to get on the table and tastes great! This recipe holds true to that, but instead of spaghetti noodles we’ll use Zoodles. You can buy already spiralized zucchini to make this meal even quicker or spiralize them yourself (which is cheaper).
For the meat I recommend purchasing organic, grass-fed ground beef with 85% fat. The fat adds flavor and helps fill you up and grass-fed contains more nutrients and better flavor without the pesticides. To keep this low fodmap, I highly suggest purchasing Rao’s Homemade Marinara Sensitive Formula Sauce, unless you want to make your own sauce. Rao’s sauce is low fodmap and oh so tasty! Pump up the flavor with dried oregano and Italian seasonings.
To add a buttery/salty taste I like to add Macadamia Nuts! This is a great substitute for parmesan cheese and even looks similar when it’s zested or you can also lightly blend/chop them.
You can also use this recipe with spaghetti squash instead of (or in addition to!) the zoodles. I like to cook a spaghetti squash in the crockpot on high for 2.5 to 3 hours with about 1/4 cup water to steam it. Then just cut open, remove the seeds and use a fork to scrape the squash from the skin.
I typically make this at least once a week because it’s so quick and easy to do. Using zoodles instead of spaghetti noodles allows you to add more veggies, keep it low carb, paleo and low fodmap. You can also try spiralizing half zucchini and half butternut squash or spaghetti squash for a unique flavor combination.
This is an easy dinner to make and a great substitute for pasta!

- Total Time30 min
- Serving Size4
- 1 lb. Organic, Pasture Raised Ground Beef, 85% Fat
- 1 jar Rao's Homemade Sensitive Formula Marinara
- 2 packages Organic Spiralized Zoodles
- 1/4 cup Macadamia nuts
- 1/4 tsp Organic Oregano
- 1/4 tsp Organic Italian Seasoning
- Salt/Pepper, to taste
Rinse and Spiralize your zucchini (if not using packaged zoodles). Will take about 6 zucchini. Set aside.
Use a zester or cuisinart blender to blend 1/4 cup Macadamia nuts. The macadamia nuts add a salty, buttery flavor instead of cheese to this meal. Set aside for now.
Cook ground beef (85% fat) on medium heat in a saute pan for about 7-8 minutes.
When almost cooked through, add the Rao’s marinara sauce to the same pan. Turn heat to low and let simmer.
Add the salt/pepper, Italian seasoning and oregano to the meat sauce and stir occasionally. Sauce will cook for about 5 more minutes.
While the sauce is cooking, pour 1 tbl olive oil in another saute pan and add the zoodles. Cook zoodles on low heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
When done, combine zoodles and meat sauce in a bowl and top with zested macadamia nuts. Enjoy!
